Pizza! Pizza! A type of food that has been a mainstay in every borough
of New York and the nation. When it comes to this type of food there is
no place on the planet that prepares it better than in New York, especially
in Brooklyn. This is specifically true when it comes to a pizzeria that has
held its own since 50's. The original owner, Tony Coppola opened the doors
to Tony's pizza in 1953. Since that time the neighborhood has changed
tremendously. From being predominantly Italian to being gentrified.

The pizzeria was taken over by brothers Paul and Frank Serrano who adapted
to the changing landscape. With that they also updated their menu with various
new delicacies. The original owner wanted to keep his vision of what kind of
establishment he wanted to project, and the brothers kept that same thought
process. The brothers adapted to the changing landscape with signature pizza
slices but never lost touch of the atmosphere the original owner prided the
shop for. Paul and Frank have diversified their menu, like offering pizza with
varied toppings and staying consistent in this new style.

"The vision was to provide quality pizza to the neighborhood. Today the
vision is still the same, over the years pizza of course has changed. We still
provide quality pizza with fresh ingredients; however, it's no longer classic
Neapolitan and Sicilian slices. The diverse toppings we offer is what keeps the
customers coming in and the consistency of our product day in and day out is what
we take pride in the most."
Being that the shop has been around for over 70 years says a lot about the
quality of food and service it offers. When you enter the shop even though
it's 2025 it feels like you went back in time with the old-time look and photos
that line the walls with the history of the store. If you were to ask Paul what
his favorite dish is at his shop, he would bring up the different thin crust
pan pizzas. For example, thin crust pan pizzas like the Drunken Vodka and our
Tomato Pie are a popular item for the locals and the old timers.
For many places the economy has made it slightly more difficult to operate, especially when you wish to retain the clientele you have garnered over the years. As Paul explained, the pizzerias of long ago were major money makers but they have changed since then. The ingredients were more affordable, which in turn gave families an option for lunch or dinner. The cost of items now across the board have fallen on the customer. Even with this known fact the brothers have managed to maintain competitive pricing compared to other shops like their own. So, if you are in the diverse city of Williamsburg on Graham Avenue then you need to pop into Tony's Pizza for a delicious slice and an atmosphere that will bring you back to the days when it was cool just hanging out at the local pizzeria.
